Corpus Christi Primary School is situated in Melbourne’s western suburbs. Allocated funding under the umbrella of the BER project, the school decided to extend and refurbish its original church hall which was built in the early 1900s. An important part of the brief was that the renovation works should complement, and not detract from, the period features of the structure. The resulting new cantilevered entrance foyer is now an architectural highlight of the building with its stunning upward sloping skillion roof. The school community and, indeed, the whole parish is delighted with the new multi-purpose hall which includes a purpose-built kitchen that comes in handy when the space is hired
St Kevin’s Primary School community is justifiably proud of its expansive, tree-lined grounds and flexible learning spaces. We were thrilled to be engaged in 2009 to upgrade the art room and some of the classrooms, as well as the staff room and foyer entrance area. The Project Architect for the job was Mark Grisby of Smith + Tracey, a firm committed to designing teaching, learning and social spaces that enrich the student experience within the education community. Works also included the construction of disabled access and a new car park.
St Mary’s Primary School is located within the parish of Ascot Vale, an area experiencing rapid growth. To accommodate the many new families with young children moving into the area, the school chose to use its BER funding to build four new classrooms and a multi-purpose hall. We worked closely with architects Clarke Hopkins Clarke on this project to deliver a series of contemporary learning spaces that blend seamlessly with the orginal Federation-style structure. The light-filled classrooms open onto a central foyer and the hall features a huge stage area. A well-designed food prep, cooking and serving area was included in the build which operates both as a canteen during
St Mary’s Primary’s stunning new free-standing office, administration and staff room building takes pride of place on the school’s 17-acre site. The reception area, in particular, exudes a warm and welcoming first impression that’s in keeping with the school’s values and vision. The light and airy staff room is an inviting and relaxing space where the staff can unwind, while the office provides a professional and comfortable space for small meetings. We worked with architect Frank Viola on this project, which was completed in 2010.
St Thomas the Apostle Primary School in Greensborough North is set on a picturesque four-hectare block, complete with landscaped gardens and shady trees. In 2012 we completed a huge $2.5m project for the school which saw us transform the staff room into a relaxing and inviting space, refurbish the entry foyer and construct new offices, toilets and an enormous new multi-purpose gymnasium. This facility has provided a much-needed all-weather venue and has enhanced the school’s physical education programs. With its natural light and sprung floors it’s perfect for indoor sports and its generous stage makes it also ideal for assemblies and performing arts. Another benefit of the new hall is
“We recently used AA Turner Builders to build our new library and refurbishment to the teacher resource area. We are extremely impressed with the professionalism and workmanship of both Russell and Alan. They regularly met with us face to face to discuss all the contract details, and we were very appreciative to have all timelines met. We also found the tradesmen to be very friendly, thorough, prompt and meticulous. Most importantly, the AA Turner team protected the building site while the construction was in progress and they were very sensitive to minimising the disruption and to ensuring the safety of the parents, staff and students.” Frank Vetrone Principal “We are
“We selected AA Turner Builder to build the renovation/extension to our school because we were told that they finish the job on time and understand the issues when dealing with safety around schools. As always when choosing a contractor it is often a risky business, however much to our delight Alan and the guys came through for us. They got the job done on time with little disruption. We appreciated the workers’ polite manner and Alan kept us well informed of the progress. We would definitely welcome the opportunity to work together on another project in the future.”
